Designer Focus | Balenciaga Shopping Bags

Another brand who have designed their take on the shopping bag is Balenciaga, who's bags are, again, a play on other brands and their original designs.

In particular, their large blue tote bag closely resembles the iconic Ikea carrier bags that are instantly recognisable. I think this links back to visual communication and how just by having an expensive brand name on an item will instantly boost it's sales and popularity - really the "Ikea" style bag has little differences to the original barring the brand name and an obvious use of luxurious fabrics, but because of the Balenciaga name on the front, it's sure to sell.

Same with the black lambskin shopper that is covered in the Balenciaga logo - take this away and all you're left with is, is a very expensive but very simple lambskin carrier bag.

Again, I really like the design of the bags as inspiration for my own final outcome and potentially creating my own version of the simple carrier bag. From these bags, I'm able to get an insight to the shape of the pattern and how it's made, which will help me when I come to make the pattern for my own bag.
